Surgical working group for endocrinology (CAEK)

(Chirurgische Arbeitsgemeinschaft Endokrinologie, CAEK)

The surgical working group for endocrinology (Chirurgische Arbeitsgemeinschaft Endokrinologie - CAEK) was founded in 1982 as a working group of the German Society of Surgery (DGC) and later became a working group of the DGAV. The CAEK brings together surgeons with a special interest in the surgical treatment of endocrine organs (thyroid, parathyroid, adreanal gland, pancreas, surgical treatment of neuroendocrinal tumors of the gastro-intestinal tract).

Aims and tasks

The aim of the surgical working group for endocrinology is to support endocrine surgery through annual scientific conferences and postgraduate training courses. As a partner to other national organizations (professional associations for endocrinology, nuclear medicine, pathology), the CAEK contributes the expertise of its members toward the development of nationwide guidelines for endocrine surgery and certification criteria for specialized centers.

Moreover, the CAEK maintains cross-national contacts between colleagues in endocrine surgery in German-speaking countries outside of Germany, but also to European and other international associations for endocrine surgery worldwide (European Society of Endocrine Surgeons, International Association of Endocrine Surgeons).
